Melanie Lopes, MFT
Dealing with stress and anxiety is hard on its own, but it’s even harder when you don’t feel good about yourself or you’re frequently thinking that you’re not good enough or that something is wrong with you. You start to feel defeated, discouraged, and stuck, which only adds to your stress and makes it hard to move forward.
Maybe you've been trying to hold it together but your usual way of handling things isn't quite enough and things are starting to slip.
In the meantime, you’re caught up in your day-to-day responsibilities and feel as if you don’t have time for yourself and there doesn’t seem to be an end in sight...
The truth is that you deserve a break – a break from stress, worry, overthinking, anxiety, fear, doubt, and self-criticism.
That's where I can help.
I'm Melanie Lopes, a licensed therapist based in Oakland, CA.
Here's what I believe and how I work:
With this guidance and support you can:
Gain new perspective
Get clarity on your options for moving forward
Learn new strategies for managing anxiety & stress
Move through challenges with more confidence
You can start to feel more hopeful, satisfied, and empowered to pursue your goals and live the life you want for yourself.
And last, but certainly not least, I believe that most people are way too hard on themselves. That tendency to beat yourself up, think you’re not good enough, think that you’re less than, or that something is wrong with you, adds to your anxiety and stress and it can hold you back and keep you stuck.
I help you find ways to start treating yourself with more kindness, understanding, and care. This helps you feel better, feel better about yourself, and it opens up opportunities for bringing more joy and satisfaction in your life.
I believe that we’ve all developed ways of thinking and behaving based on our past experiences, and while some of these ways are effective and helpful, others may be keeping you stuck.
I help you take a closer look at your patterns of thinking and behaving to really get a better understanding of your motivations, obstacles, and needs. I work with you to find ways to support those patterns that are helpful, and change those patterns that keep you stuck and are causing difficulty.
I believe that in order to make lasting changes and improvements in your life, you have to be persistent and you have to be curious.
You have to be curious about yourself - your feelings, your thoughts, and your responses - because when you can understand what’s going on, what you need, and what’s getting in the way, you can start coming up with solutions and options for moving forward.
I encourage you to begin looking at yourself and your patterns with curiosity, rather than criticism.
