Hi! I'm Melanie Lopes and I'm a licensed psychotherapist who is dedicated to helping people live their lives more fully, with less anxiety and more confidence.
I understand what it’s like to feel overwhelmed, stuck, and unsure of yourself - unfortunately these feelings are fairly common. It's become so common that sometimes people just come to accept a life full of stress and dissatisfaction and see it as "normal".
I became a therapist because I wanted to help show more people that it doesn't have to be this way. Change is possible.
I’ve come to understand that if you can give yourself a break, or simply pause or slow down every once in a while, it opens up an opportunity for change. You can begin to shift perspective, change your habits and your thinking, and it can make a big difference in how you feel and how you feel about yourself.
As your therapist, I want to help you find ways to give yourself the break you deserve so that you can feel more at peace, more confident, and better equipped to handle challenges when they come your way.
How I Work
I believe that we’ve all developed ways of thinking and behaving based on our past experiences, and while some of these ways are effective and helpful, others may be keeping you stuck.
I help you take a closer look at your patterns of thinking and behaving to really get a better understanding of your motivations, obstacles, and needs. I work with you to find ways to support those patterns that are helpful, and change those patterns that keep you stuck and are causing difficulty.
I concentrate on your strengths while offering perspective and compassion for your struggles.
I encourage you to begin looking at yourself with curiosity, rather than criticism.
